01Common problems

Tell usyour issue.

We keep losing power.

Repeated tripping usually means a fault on the circuit or something connected to it. We test the circuit, isolate the cause and fix it properly rather than just resetting the breaker.

What we check / do
  • Tripping circuits
  • RCD and RCBO faults
  • Single- and three-phase circuits
  • Intermittent faults
  • Short circuits and earth faults
  • Faulty GPOs and damaged accessories

Half our warehouse lights aren't working.

Whether it's failed fittings, a lighting circuit fault or controls that have stopped responding, we find the cause, repair or replace what's failed and can upgrade to LED while we're there.

What we check / do
  • Lighting circuit faults
  • High-bay and warehouse lighting
  • LED panels, downlights and linear fittings
  • Sensor, time-clock and photocell faults
  • Lighting control faults
  • Replacement, relocation and upgrades

Something's not right at the switchboard.

Burning smells, buzzing, hot breakers or circuits that won't hold are worth looking at quickly. We test the distribution board and the circuits it feeds and tell you what we found.

What we check / do
  • Distribution board faults
  • Contactor and relay faults
  • Electrical isolator faults
  • Circuit additions and consolidation
  • RCBO upgrades
  • Circuit schedules and labelling

We need more power for new equipment.

New machines, appliances, racks or plant often need a dedicated supply. We confirm the equipment's requirements first, then install a circuit that suits it.

What we check / do
  • Dedicated and three-phase circuits
  • Additional GPOs
  • Kitchen and appliance supplies
  • Comms rack, AV rack and UPS supplies
  • Equipment voltage, phase and current checks
  • Isolation and protection requirements

Our emergency lights failed their test.

Failed emergency or exit fittings need rectifying. We find out why they failed, replace or repair them and test the result.

What we check / do
  • Failed emergency light replacement
  • Failed exit sign replacement
  • Battery-backed fitting replacement
  • Emergency lighting fault finding
  • Testing and maintenance
  • Compliance rectification

The AC isn't running, and the mechanical contractor says it's the power supply.

We investigate the electrical supply, circuit protection, isolators, contactors, relays, controls, BMS interfaces and fire-trip interfaces associated with commercial mechanical equipment.

What we check / do
  • Equipment not starting or stopping
  • Lost power supply
  • Contactor and relay faults
  • Fire-trip and BMS interface faults
  • VSD and motor supply faults
  • Fan and pump electrical faults

We look after the electrical side of mechanical plant. Refrigeration and mechanical servicing are coordinated with your mechanical contractor.

We're moving desks and need more data.

Desk moves, new rooms and new equipment usually need data outlets added, moved or repaired. We run, terminate, test and label the cabling so your IT provider can take it from there.

What we check / do
  • New or damaged data points
  • Cat6 and Cat6A alterations
  • WAP and PoE cabling
  • Rack termination and patching
  • Testing and labelling
  • Ceiling and floor-box outlets

The meeting room screen has stopped working.

We test the signal path from source to screen, check the display, cabling and conferencing hardware, and rectify or replace what's failed.

What we check / do
  • Signal-path testing
  • Display testing and replacement
  • Camera, microphone and speaker testing
  • AV cabling checks
  • Equipment power-up and functional testing
  • Defect rectification

We're changing the layout of our office or warehouse.

Layout changes touch power, lighting, data and sometimes AV at the same time. We handle all four together, so you have one contractor to organise instead of several.

What we check / do
  • Workstation power and data
  • Lighting relocation and new switching
  • New equipment circuits
  • Data outlet additions and moves
  • Meeting-room power, data and AV
  • Testing and documentation

05FAQ

Commonquestions.

Do you only work on commercial sites?

Yes. CESS works in commercial workplaces and facilities: offices, warehouses, retail, clinics, hospitality venues, education and base-building areas. We don't do domestic work.

Do you provide more than one service?

Yes. A single service request can include Electrical, Mechanical Electrical, Data & Communications and Audiovisual, reducing the need to coordinate multiple contractors.

Do you service air-conditioning or refrigeration?

No. We look after the electrical side of mechanical plant: power supplies, isolators, contactors, relays, controls, BMS interfaces and fire-trip interfaces. Refrigeration and mechanical servicing are coordinated with your mechanical contractor.

How do you determine what work is required?

Our process starts with inspection and testing. We identify the cause, explain the findings and outline the recommended rectification before the work proceeds.

Do you provide ongoing commercial maintenance and support?

Yes. CESS supports commercial clients with reactive service, repairs, planned maintenance where appropriate, alterations and ongoing upgrade works across their sites.

Can I provide photos before you attend to help assess the issue?

Yes, please. Reply to our confirmation email with photos attached. They help us understand the problem before we attend.
